Current Adult Education
COFFEE WITH RABBI
Wednesday mornings—9:45 a.m. (at My Favorite Muffin)
We are currently studying “The Misunderstood Jew” by Professor Amy-Jill Levine.
Adult Education will resume this week with 10:30 Sunday morning sessions and 7:15 Wednesday evening sessions. Preparing for the High Holy Days will be the new topic, with emphasis on our new High Holy Days prayer book, Mishkan HaNefesh.
It’s time to start planning the 2015-16 schedule for the HeBros, our congregation’s brotherhood. Any adult male is welcome to join us each Sunday, when Temple Israel Religious School is in session. We meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the library, unless otherwise noted. Join us for our first gathering this Sunday, August 16, when we’ll share programming ideas and sign up as volunteers to lead sessions.
ADULT EDUCATION TO COME
Watch your mail boxes – email, that is – for a survey this summer about Adult Education. Rabbi Schwartz has the following topics in mind for after the High Holy Days:
The Ten Commandments - What they have meant to Jews in past generations and what the can mean for us
Judaism’s Great Debates - Major issues that Jews have debated, and are still controversial today, for example: Holiness and Authority; Accountability and Morality; Spirituality
Poetry from the Cairo Geniza - Beautiful works on faith, love, and loyalty, lost for centuries and now being translated and appreciated
Understanding Maimonides “Guide For the Perplexed” - Author Micah Goodman brings Maimonides's masterwork into dialogue with the intellectual and spiritual worlds of twenty-first-century readers.
In what order shall we study them? Stay tuned!
