TEMPLE ISRAEL RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

At Temple Israel Religious School (TIRS), we seek to nourish positive Jewish learning experiences. We strive to provide a lasting education that will inspire our students to become confident and engaged members of the Jewish community. Through hands-on learning, we foster an environment where creativity is encouraged and where the teachers help students explore their Jewish world. Our school motto is “Jewish is Joyous.” To accomplish our goals, we chose to implement the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) curriculum in 2006.

The ISJL curriculum covers early childhood through confirmation.  Each grade’s curriculum contains 30 lesson plans.  The grades are spiraled, meaning that different content areas are covered in different years and are repeated at increasing levels of sophistication. The 10 core content areas are: Community, Culture and Symbols, God, Hebrew and Prayer, Israel, Jewish History, Jewish Holidays, Jewish Life Cycle, Mitzvot and Jewish Values, and Tanach.

We encourage parents to take part in adult study and discussion groups while their children attend TIRS. When the parents are engaged, it sends a message to the students that Jewish education is important. Along with parental involvement, TIRS emphasizes the importance of community-building, creating memorable moments for families, and drawing a connection between Jewish learning and living. Be sure to join us for our camp-style prayer service in the sanctuary at noon each day of religious school.

It is our policy that no child is denied a Jewish education due to inability to pay. We do, however, ask that arrangements be made in advance. Please contact me if your family needs assistance. All scholarships are kept confidential.

Thank you for being part of TIRS. I look forward to working with you to create a successful program. TIRS meets on Sundays from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
